Volume III of Memory Fold, features a selection of pianists utilising the same conceptual framework as Volume I.

Memory Fold

The music of Memory Fold presents compilations of an experiment in a simple musical/creative task.

1 – Play a short improvisation
2 – Remembering step 1, play another layer/part to the piece
3 – Remembering steps 1 and 2, player another layer/part to the piece

and a variation:

1 – Play a short improvisation
2 – Remembering step 1, attempt to play the same improvisation as step 1
3 – Remembering steps 1 and 2, attempt to play both at once

Firstly this process was performed as a daily task on solo clarinet for 3 weeks in July 2018. After this ensembles and individuals were invited to perform the process as opportunities arose over the next year.

Recordings were either synced at the beginning of each take, or at the end of each take.

All pieces were recorded at the Audio Foundation,
Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa – New Zealand with the exception of Memory Fold 17- recorded at the Pyramid Club, Pōneke, Aotearoa – New Zealand.
