about

Watching Paint Dry – Jeff Henderson (2015)

A graphic score with instructions for up to 12 musicians with time-pieces

Playing instructions

- coloured dots are assigned notes (e.g yellow = G) – optional
- simultaneously start timepieces
- select dot as starting point
- play note assigned to colour of dot
- follow a black line to the next dot, the numbers above or below each line signify the number of seconds in between each note/dot. (e.g play G …line has 5 above + wait 5 seconds… play next dot)
- continue for assigned performance time (e.g 60min)
- dots also carry additional information as to density, volume and texture of notes (e.g large dot = louder)

Notes

This score was constructed by using painting drop sheets and measuring the distance in centimetres between each dot. It is envisioned that over the course of a performance one senses a 3 dimensional structure through the transferral of distances into time.
